WHITNEY MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART
Summer of Love: Art of the Psychedelic Era

May 24, 2007 - September 16, 2007

Paintings, posters, album covers, photographs, and multimedia events explore the culture of the 1960s and early 70s. Featured artists include Isaac Abrams, Richard Avedon, Lynda Benglis, Jimi Hendrix (his only known watercolor), Robert Indiana, Jordan Belson, and Stan VanDerBeek.

 

METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART

Beginning August 3, the Reinstallation of the South Asia Galleries examines Buddhist and Hindu sculpture between 2nd century BC and 8th century AD.

INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR PHOTOGRAPHY
Chim: Photographs by David Seymour
May 11 through September 9, 2007

Photographer David Seymour, or "Chim," was best known for his stunning, compassionate war-time photography. This exhibit highlights his photojournalistic work in the Spanish Civil War and includes iconic photographs from his UN commissions.
 

MUSEUM OF MODERN ART

Running through September 17 and the fourth in a series of installments from the Museum's collection, What Is Painting? Contemporary Art from the Collection considers the practice of painting and its role in contemporary art. The pieces were made from around 1965 on, many being displayed for the first time since the Museum's reopening.

MUSEUM OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK
The Glory Days: New York Baseball 1947-1957

June 27 through December 31

The Yankees, the Brooklyn Dodgers, and the New York Giants dominated the sport from 1947 - 1957, leaving a legacy that has shaped baseball to this day. This exhibit examines the details of those 10 years with films, photographs and collectors items. The exhibit also boasts the "greatest assemblage of baseball memorabilia ever exhibited."

While you're uptown, take a stroll through Riverside Park. Winding along Riverside Drive from W. 72 nd Street to W. 158 th Street, this city park offers beautiful views of the Hudson and landscaping designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape architect who created Central Park.
