As summer continues Lincoln Center continues to provide and ever-changing array of outdoor music and dance. Enjoy an afternoon or evening performance by one of the many talented artists. Beginning August 4, 2001 Lincoln Center Plaza comes alive with twenty days and fun-filled nights of FREE music, dance, special events, and family fun. Some of our favorites are listed below: Wednesday, August 8 - The Janavak National Folk Dance Company will perform dazzling mythic dances of Assam, Bengal, Punjab, Gurajat, and Rajasthan. This mesmerizing company of sparkling dancers and musician come from the Darpana Academy. There will be two performances one at 10:30am and one at 6:00pm. Both performances will be held at Lincoln Center's Josie Robertson Plaza. Sunday, August 12 - The Hung-Sheng Lion Dance Theatre of Taiwan, R.O.C. will present their unique dance interpretation in celebration of the Temple Festival of Taiwan. The performance begins at 8:00pm at Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park Bandshell. Wednesday, August 15 - The Badenya Les Freres Coulibaly Company preserve the griot traditions of deep Africa in this exciting event. The company of seven artists will thrill and delight you. The performance begins at 6:00pm at Lincoln Center's Josie Robertson Plaza. Sunday, August 19 - The Eighteenth Annual Roots of American Music Festival takes place at Lincoln Center's North Plaza. Enjoy the best in Blues, Gospel, and Folk traditions at the following performances: 1:00pm - Tom Winslow, Folk in the Seeger tradition 2:00pm - Nothin' Fancy, Brilliant bluesgrass harmonies 3:00pm - Geoff Muldaur, Blues and beyond 4:00pm - Tribute to Reverend Gary Davis, legendary preacher of gospel and blues, featuring Larry Johnson and Tom Winslow. 5:00pm - Tom Paxton and Anne Hills, two brilliant artists "Under American Skies" Tuesday, August 21 - Elise Witt and the Mezzanine Band performs at the North Plaza at 6:30pm. Enjoy the honey-voiced Atlanta songwriter as she sings music from around the world. Wednesday, August 22 - A fabulous gathering of New York City's tap royalty will grace the stage at Josie Robertson Plaza. The performance will begin at 5:30pm. Saturday, August 25 - "Puente: Santeria to Swing" a tribute to Tito Puente celebrating the triumphant legacy of El Rey, the King of Latin Music. The evening features The Harbor Conservatory Big Band with director Louis Bauzo special guests Julito Collazo, Francisco Aguabella, and direct from Puerto Rico Orestes Vilato.
